CHARITY

Our chosen charity this year is
The Lola-Rose Foundation and
North Leigh Primary School / Pre-School

The Lola-Rose Foundation

The Lola-Rose Foundation was formed in loving memory of baby Lola-Rose, who was born sleeping on 26th September 2012.

The Lola-Rose Foundation promotes research into stillbirth and neonatal death, whilst supporting families suffering such a devastating loss. The charity aim is to raise awareness and generate income  for numerous charities associated with stillbirth and neonatal death in the UK. These organisations focus on research into why 17 babies are stillborn or die shortly after birth each day in the UK and also provide essential support for families suffering such a terrible loss.

At the John Radcliffe Hospital on level 7, there is a bereavement trust fund in place to help with the on-going upkeep of 2 bereavement suites and other bereavement related expenses; this is called the Ashfield Fund. Both bereavement suites are used to care for women and their families when they have lost a baby in pregnancy or shortly afterwards.

The Ashfield Fund relies on donations from its families and also from Oxfordshire SANDS to provide this environment, keep it maintained and also to have the additional resources to enhance the care offered.  Typical expenses incurred in the day to day running and maintenance include:

* Purchase of equipment to create mementoes, digital cameras, printer & accessories, memory sticks * Hand and foot printing resources * Contributions to help fund bereavement training for staff  * Bereavement suite furnishings * Moses baskets and linen * Books

The foundation’s focus this year is to support the above to improve bereavement facilities on the delivery suite.  This project will involve major re-organisation of space and the refurbishment is likely to cost around £5000.00

North Leigh Pre-School

North Leigh Pre-school is a registered charity setting run by a volunteer management committee.

The pre-school is situated in the grounds of the village primary school and provides quality early years’ childcare and education for children from the age of 2 years old up to primary school age.

The pre-school serves the local and surrounding villages and currently has 30 children registered using the provision which offers wrap-around-care between the hours of 7.45am – 5.30pm, Monday – Friday during term time only.

Our focus this year is to fundraise to extend our garden area and to have our own secure gated access. This will improve entry to pre-school, whilst also increasing security/safeguarding to all on-site children. The estimated cost of these improvements is in the region of £7,000.
