In 2005 Eynsham Hall was acquired by the Cathedral Group, who put into place an investment programme for the refurbishment of the Hall and its facilities. The programme has already made significant changes to the venue, and the services it offers to guests.
The Cathedral Group is aware that Eynsham Hall is one of the area’s most impressive venues, and its popularity for weddings and functions is testament to that. With this in mind, one of the first procedures that was put into place was the removal of all car parking spaces from the front of the building. The team felt that with such an impressive approach, having vehicles parked in front of the Hall detracted from the drama of the Grade 2 listed mansion, and the ‘wow factor’ that guests should feel when they approach the doors for the first time. A gravel style surface has been laid, which is very much in keeping with the property, giving visitors the feeling that they are experiencing the Hall as it would have been back when it was first built, in 1908.
Further works are being carried out in the surrounding grounds, making the 47 acres of manicured gardens and rolling parkland an even more impressive view for visitors. Many guests like to take advantage of the grounds, whether they are using them for wedding photography, a corporate event, or just a coffee on the terrace, and the Cathedral Group want to make sure that the outside of the property reflects the splendour of the inside. Every step is being taken to ensure this is possible, even to the extent of making sure that the topiary decorating the terraces is kept to the original shapes that it was back when the house was built.
Whilst every step is being taken to ensure that certain elements of the Hall remain as true to the period as possible, the Cathedral Group are also taking innovative steps to mix the old with the new, and it is definitely paying off. The recently refurbished Gun Room Bar is a delightful mix of period glamour fused with modern contemporary design. A brilliant blend of the traditional and new, the Gun Room Bar takes the history of Eynsham Hall and marries it perfectly with elegant design, creating a space that guests find captivating and which scooped Eynsham Hall the European Hotel Design Award in 2007.
Future plans for the Hall include returning a series of rooms on the first floor to bedrooms, and building a new East Wing. The new building will be created in a style sympathetic to the existing property and is a hugely exciting project for the team.
